Hi NPAR chairs, I just wanted to let you know that the 6th of June, the day before NPAR starts, will be the 60th anniversary of the D-Day when American and English troups landed in France to free Europe from the Nazis in 1944. Lots of celebrations are organized during the week-end 5-6th of June. Having attended the 50th celebration, I can tell you this is something impressive and emotional, gathering veterans from the US, Canada, England, France and Germany. I would recommend mentioning it on the NPAR web site. You can reference the site http://www.normandiememoire.com/ for more information. The simplest way to attend the celebration is to reserve a Hotel in Caen (1 hour of train or car from Paris), rent a car and drive around. The celebrations will be everywhere, crowds of veterans will walk the streets and seeing the ocean and the German defenses there is more impressive than anything you can read or watch on TV (even the movie "Saving Private Ryand"). Traveling from Caen to Annecy takes approximately 6 hours in train (via Paris). Best regards, Jean-Daniel Fekete
